Welcome to Lebanon
Settlement of the then-named TowwHay fields in Lebanon Maineoh Plantation began in 1743, and in 1767 the town was incorporated as Lebanon, named after the biblical land. Currently, Lebanon has a population of just over 6,000 people. The town shares a school district with the towns of Berwick and North Berwick, Maine.
In the early days, the southeast was used for crops, mostly hay. The Salmon Falls River and Little River were both used to power early mills, including gristmills, sawmills, and carding mills.
The town also had a tannery. In the late 19th century, railroad lines ran the length of the southeast border of the town and along part of the west.
Today, Lebanon still provides a spacious country environment with plenty of privacy, while being close to amenities. The cities of Rochester and Somersworth, New Hampshire, are nearby for tax-free shopping or for catching a show at the Rochester Opera House. In Lebanon, head over to Trains Tavern, a local hot spot with live music, karaoke, and great food.
Lebanon's border with New Hampshire on the west boasts the serene small lakes of Northeast Pond and Spaulding Pond. More freshwater recreational opportunities can be found in the nearby lakes region of Maine, and New Hampshire's world-famous Lake Winnipesaukee is only a half-hour drive from Lebanon.
