Welcome to Eliot

Eliot, Maine, is a largely rural community of approximately 6,700 people that has maintained its classic New England charm.

Formerly known as The Upper Parish, Eliot was initially settled as part of Kittery around 1623. This small town is just across the Piscataqua River from the beautiful, trendy, and tax-free New Hampshire city of Portsmouth. The growing city of Dover, NH, is also nearby.

Eliot’s Maine neighbors include Kittery, with its famous shopping outlets, the diverse coastal town of York, and the growing community of South Berwick.

The town boasts an excellent school system that it shares with the neighboring town of South Berwick, as well as low unemployment, low crime, and property taxes lower than the state median. Real estate in Eliot is made up of affordable, smaller starter homes all the way up to waterfront properties that will knock your socks off!

All summer long, fun events like the Eliot Antique Tractor & Engine Show and other fairs and events are happening on the grassy fields at the Raitt Homestead and Farm Museum.

In September, the whole community comes together for Eliot Festival Days and a 5k road race with a chili fest, live music, and fireworks. The festival includes food and crafts booths and events for the entire family. In October, the school puts on annual Oktoberfest fundraiser for the Marshwood Education Foundation. Oktoberfest includes food from local chefs, live music, dancing, auctions, and games with prizes.

Great schools, small-town charm and rural coastal beauty, easy access to great cities like Portsmouth, NH and Boston, MA - those are just some of the reasons that make Eliot Maine a great place to live.
